San Francisco Bay Area Honey Bees
About Us

A few years ago, I picked up an article that brought to my attention the
Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), when worker bees from a beehive or a whole honey bee colony abruptly disappear.  Across the globe, crops, produce, and native plants rely on honey bees for pollination. There is still no concrete explanation for the CCD.  The problem has gotten so drastic even the U.S Congress has gotten involved to try to save the honey bees.

Back in my rural home town, my parents used to be commercial beekeepers.
Ever since my mother retired only a few years ago, she has been asking me to obtain honey bees to keep in her backyard. In April 2008, I was finally able to purchase 2-lb package bees from a fellow beekeeper in Chico, CA.  After a year of labor and love (and many painful stings), my family and I have multiplied from a single hive to few dozen hives located in various locations throughout Bay Area. When in season, we harvest surplus honey from bee hives.

Check out the
RESOURCES page for very useful content I have collected related to honey, honey bees and the CCD.
